Spotlighting Everyday Heroes: Celebrating British Citizen Award Medallists

At P&G, through our trusted brands, we look to make people's lives better in small but meaningful ways.

But beyond brands, it's often individuals - neighbours, volunteers, everyday heroes - who have a positive impact. That’s why we're proud to shine a light on those across the UK who make every day more than ordinary for those in their local communities – and who have been recognised by the British Citizen Awards (BCAs).

The British Citizen Awards look to recognise individuals who strengthen the fabric of society across the UK, celebrating people who help improve their local communities.

Read on to find out more about some stories of impact from those who have been recognised in their local communities.

Ashleigh Hurst

Ashleigh is a dedicated advocate for community support, co-founding two impactful charities. After facing years of personal struggles with endometriosis, she established HEY Endo to combat period poverty, distributing thousands of sanitary products in 2024 to benefit more than 1,000 individuals. Additionally, through her charity Doreen’s, Ashleigh provides essential maternity care packages to local midwives and support services, aiding vulnerable families in need. Her commitment to helping those facing domestic violence, homelessness, and mental health challenges has earned her recognition as a medallist in the British Citizen Awards, celebrating her extraordinary contributions to society.

We caught up with Ashleigh to hear from her:

"These charities are so close to my heart. Being based in Hull, where deprivation is a real challenge, we see such a wide variety of needs - and it’s incredibly humbling to be able to give back.

I know myself what living through hard times feels like, which makes this work all the more meaningful. What also makes it even more special is that it’s truly a family effort - my children, my husband, and my mum are all involved, so it really is a family affair."

Joe Roussel

Joe is a passionate community advocate dedicated to improving lives through nutrition and support. As a trained chef, he provides nutritious meals to various groups, including veterans, seniors, and those experiencing mental health challenges. His efforts ensure that individuals facing poverty and isolation receive healthy meals, fostering a sense of community. Joe’s initiatives, such as organizing Christmas dinners and food packages, have made a significant impact on local residents. His commitment to reducing isolation and promoting well-being has rightfully earned him recognition as a medallist in the British Citizen Awards, highlighting his extraordinary contributions to the community.

On the recognition, Joe reflected: "Food has a way of bringing people together, and it’s been great to see the difference it can make. I’m humbled to be recognised by the BCAs, but this award really belongs to everyone who supports and shares in this work."
